    What is Halo?

Halo is one of the oldest First-Person Shooter (FPS) franchises in the world, and it played a crucial role in developing the FPS esports scene. While its relevance fell off in the 2010s, Halo esports re-emerged in 2022 with the introduction of Halo Championship Series (HCS).

    Halo Infinite

As a game, Halo is an FPS title with a sci-fi twist to it, offering a similar gameplay to other prominent FPS games such as Counter-Strike and Call of Duty, with objective-based game modes which require strategy, teamwork and the ability to perform in high-paced situations.

The game modes offer some variety in how the games are played, which adds to the viewers' excitement, especially in Halo esports matches at the highest level.

    How to Bet on Halo?

As one of the more popular esports titles, Halo esports betting markets are available on any betting site that covers esports. And while it may sound daunting for new punters to start exploring the world of Halo betting it is quite straightforward and very similar to betting on any other FPS title.

Even for someone who has never bet on FPS esports, learning how to wager on Halo should come easy, as there are only a few main betting markets you should know about.

    Match Winner

Match winner or moneyline is the most straightforward wager you can make on any Halo esports match. With this wager, you're predicting which of the two teams will win the upcoming game or series, and it does not matter by how much.

Like in other esports or sports, a match-winner is a prediction on who will win the match/series.

    Handicaps

Handicaps offer a bit more variety compared to match-winner wagers. With handicaps, crypto betting sites give the teams an imaginary advantage or disadvantage based on their perceived strength. In Halo, handicaps are more commonly displayed in maps won.

For example, if OpTic Gaming are expected to defeat FaZe Clan in a BO3 series, bookmakers will offer a negative handicap (-1.5 maps) on OpTic and a positive handicap (+1.5 maps) on Atlanta FaZe.

By betting on OpTic, you're expecting them to win with at least two maps to spare, whereas a +1.5 map handicap on FaZe Clan is a bet on FaZe winning the series or at least one map.

The size of the handicap will vary depending on how big of favourites one team are, but mainly on the type of the series. With the best-of-three (BO3) series, handicaps are set at 1.5 maps, whereas the BO5 series have handicaps commonly set at 2.5 as well as 1.5 maps.

    Totals

Totals, also known as over/under bets, are bets on whether a certain statistic in a game will exceed the predetermined value or not.

In FPS esports titles, including Halo, the most common over/under bet type is over/under maps. With it you're predicting how many maps will be played in a series.

Like with handicaps, the total line will be set mainly depending on whether the game is BO3, BO5, or BO7—at over/under 2.5, 3.5, and 5.5 maps.

    Futures (Outright)

Futures or outrights are another simple wager. They are generally open before bigger Halo esports tournaments and allow punters to predict which team will win the event.

Futures can also include other bet types besides tournament winner, including the region of the winner, team to reach the final, or different types of group betting; group to win, team to qualify, team to win group.

    Correct Score

Correct score is a self-explanatory bet anyone can make on Halo esports matches. As the name implies, with it, you're predicting the correct score of a match between the two teams.

As this bet is harder to get correctly, correct score markets usually offer higher payouts and can offer a bit more variety when looking for the best wagers on Halo.

Key Halo Esports Tournaments & Leagues

Since Halo esports' resurgence in late 2021, its esports scene revolves around the Halo Championship Series (HCS), with little to no tournaments that happen outside it. While smaller online tournaments happen, no top-division competitions occur outside the HCS.

    Halo Championship Series

The HCS season consists of four HCS Major events hosted by teams competing in the league, each offering a $250,000 prize pool and HCS points, which count towards qualification for the season-culminating HCS World Championship.

The HCS World Championship is the culmination of the Halo esports season. It typically takes place in Autumn, welcoming the top HCS teams and squads who qualify for the tournament through online qualifiers.

So even though the Halo esports scene is healthy and growing, punters will mainly bet on the Majors and the world championship – offering fewer betting opportunities compared to Counter-Strike, albeit roughly the same as Call of Duty.
