On Monday, April 22, Cloud9 announced the benching of Abay "HObbit" Khassenov and Ilya "Perfecto" Zalutskiy. This leaves Cloud9 with just two players on the active Counter-Strike roster.

HObbit and Perfect, who have been with Cloud9 since 2022 and 2023, respectively, are available for transfer after Cloud9 decided not to continue with the same lineup. And while Cloud9 confirmed that they're rebuilding the Counter-Strike roster, that will look much different going forward, as the team already parted ways with three players this month.

HObbit's and Perfecto's benching comes just one week after Cloud9 parted ways with Denis "electroNic" Sharipov, who left for Virtus.pro on April 15. Ten days prior, Cloud9 released Timur "buster" Tulepov to 1win.

These moves bring Cloud9 to just two active members, in-game leader Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhaylov and Sergey "Ax1Le" Rykhtorov, who might stay with the organisation as the core around which Cloud9 will build their new Counter-Strike roster.

Big Changes Following a Rough Start to the Season

Cloud9's recent changes follow a streak of disappointing results since the start of 2024. Despite fielding a very stacked roster, Cloud9 hasn't accomplished much this year, which was due to the team's lacked a dedicated AWPer.

Even though Cloud9 have qualified for the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, they were knocked out of the tournament in the first round of the playoffs. In their other big tournament appearances, Cloud9 accomplished even less, with the most notable being a 13th-16th-place finish at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2024 and a ninth-12th-place finish at IEM Chengdu 2024.

The departure of Perfecto and HObbit comes as a bit of a shock, as the two have been a core of Cloud9's roster – especially HObbit. The 29-year-old joined the organisation in April 2022 and helped Cloud9 win IEM Dallas and reach no.3 on the global CS rankings.

Perfecto, on the other side, joined Cloud9 in July 2023 from Natus Vincere, along with electroNic in a move that put Cloud9 on the map as the next superteam. However, Perfecto's stint with Cloud9 didn't net any notable results, as he failed to win a single tournament title.

Still, Perfecto has managed to average a positive (1.07) performance rating. Unfortunately, it seems like that wasn't enough for him to keep the spot on the roster.

Cloud9 have yet to announce who will replace the departed players. But the team has just under one month to fill the missing pieces before the next tournament, BetBoom Dacha Belgrade, which kicks off on May 14, 2024.
