On Friday, December 29, Juliana "Juli" Tosic revealed that the Evil Geniuses Gold Counter-Strike roster disbanded. The decision follows the players' contract expiration with the North American esports organisation.

Evil Geniuses entered the female Counter-Strike scene with the EG Gold roster in August 2022; however, the project hasn't accomplished much over the next year. EG Gold only made one offline event, at ESL Impact Season 2 Finals, but failed to qualify for Seasons 3 and 4.

EG Gold's lack of notable achievements might not be the sole reason for the disbandment. While it definitely played a role in it, Evil Geniuses have recently been moving away from the esports scene amid reports of the organisation's financial struggles.

With Evil Geniuses exiting the female Counter-Strike scene, FlyQuest RED is the only North American women's CS team, leaving the North American women's esports scene in a rough spot.

Besides FlyQuest, the NA scene also has an independent roster, Shimmer, but like FlyQuest, it hasn't accomplished much in the recent ESL Impact LAN event, placing last.

Evil Geniuses' Exit From Esports

Evil Geniuses exiting the female Counter-Strike scene is just one of many decisions the North American esports organisation made, which suggests it is looking to exit the esports scene altogether. It was recently reported that EG is exiting the male Counter-Strike scene, after it abandoned the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) and Dota 2 teams.

Since then, Evil Geniuses sold their BLAST Premier slot to Cloud9 and this month terminated its partnership with ESL, pulling out of the Copenhagen Major RMR's NA closed qualifier.

While Evil Geniuses have yet to officially confirm their intentions of leaving the esports world, the events that occurred over the last few weeks suggest EG won't be involved in any esports in 2024.
