On Tuesday, December 19, G2 Esports announced that it has released its women’s Counter-Strike roster, G2 Oya. The decision follows a disappointing year in which the team failed to qualify for either of the LAN Finals of the ESL Impact tournament series.

G2 Oya was unveiled in March 2023, and it quickly gained a lot of attention. It marked G2 Esports’ first entry into the women’s Counter-Strike scene, and at the time, the new roster was believed to have a lot of potential.

Headlined by Julia “juliano” Kiran and Zainab “zAAz” Turkie, G2 Oya were destined for greatness. But success was hard to come by.

G2 Oya debuted at ESL Impact League Season 3: European Division in April, where they failed to show much and crashed out of the tournament in the group stage. With a 2-3 record, G2 Oya showed very little in their debut tournament.

After another rough showing at Gamers Without Borders Female 2023, where G2 Oya placed fifth-sixth, G2’s women’s Counter-Strike team found success at ESL Impact Cash Cup: Europe - Summer 2023 #4 and won the tournament in a dominant fashion.

However, the team again fell apart on LAN, ending their run through ESL Impact League Season 4: European Division in the group stage with a 3-2 record. Now, nearly two months later, G2 Esports announced it is shutting down the division, releasing all five players and coaching staff into free agency.

In a Twitter post, juliano confirmed that G2 Esports decided to exit ESL Impact but also stated that she is open to new offers and that she’s not ready to end her CS career. Likewise, zAAz confirmed that she is available to join a new team.
