On Tuesday, April 9, GamerLegion announced a multi-year contract extension with Counter-Strike coach Ashley “ashhh” Battye. The news confirm ashhh will remain at the helm of GamerLegion for a while longer, extending his stay which started in 2020.

Ashhh joined GamerLegion as a coach in August 2020 and has since helped the European Counter-Strike team reach new heights. Most notably, GamerLegion reached the finals of BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 in May of last year. Since then, GamerLegion have not reached the same heights and have not won a single Counter-Strike tournament.

This is largely due to the departure of two key players in Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek and Mihai “iM” Ivan in June 2023.

However, despite the lack of titles, GamerLegion performed well at PGL Major Copenhagen 2024: European RMR Decider with a runner-up finish, which eventually earned them a replacement invite for the Major.

GamerLegion took full advantage of the opportunity and made some noise at the Major, beating AMKAL ESPORTS and Legacy. Unfortunately, they came one series short of reaching the Elimination stage, with defeats against SAW, Eternal Fire, and Imperial Esports.

The poor run at the Major and lack of success in other Counter-Strike tournaments over the last year led to roster changes. At the start of April, GamerLegion announced the benching of Nicolas "Keoz" Dgus and Frederik "acoR" Gyldstrand and two new trial members in Hanrich “sl3nd” Havesi and Andreas “aNdu” Maasing.

Despite replacing two players, GamerLegion decided to keep head coach ashhh, trusting the 33-year-old English coach to lead the new-look roster to new heights.

GamerLegion will debut their new lineup at the Thunderpick World Championship EU Closed Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, April 16, when they face off against MOUZ.
