On Monday, December 11, Korean-American esports organisation Gen.G have announced their return to the competitive Counter-Strike scene. The organisation previously fielded a North American Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster until early 2021 before stepping away from the scene.

Gen.G making a return to the CS scene will mark the first time Gen.G will be involved in Valve's first-person shooter since early 2021 when the organisation released its roster. At the time, Gen.G fielded a NA lineup featuring Damian "daps" Steele, Sam "s0m" Oh, Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand, Kenneth "koosta" Suen, and Timothy "autimatic" Ta.

Despite having a history of competing in the North American CS scene, Gen.G have announced that their new Counter-Strike project will be Chinese. This makes Gen.G one of the latest esports organisations to start investing in the Chinese esports scene, which continues to grow exponentially.

Gen.G first entered the Counter-Strike competitive scene in December 2019, when the organisation acquired the former Cloud9 core alongside s0m and BnTeT. And the promising lineup saw some success early into their tenure.

The North American lineup got off to a strong start, winning DreamHack Open Anaheim 2020; however, they haven't found much success over the course of the year. Besides placing second at cs_summit 6 Online: North America in July, Gen.G haven't finished a single big event inside the top four and ended the year with a ninth-10th-place finish at Flashpoint Season 2.

Due to the lack of success and numerous issues, including the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gen.G decided to step away from the Counter-Strike scene and have since not hinted at a possible return until this Monday.

Gen.G Re-Enters Another Esports Title

Gen.G are widely regarded as one of the world's most well-known and successful esports organisations, fielding numerous esports rosters across several titles. Gen.G field teams in League of Legends, Overwatch League, PUBG, NBA2K, ValorantRocket League and will further expand its reach by re-entering the CS scene.

However, not many details regarding Gen.G's return are known. While the organisation unveiled its intentions to enter the Counter-Strike esports scene with a Chinese roster, there is no information available about how the lineup will look or when it will come together.

But considering the second Counter-Strike 2 Major of the season is set to take place in Shanghai, it makes sense for Gen.G to capitalise on the opportunity and reach the first official CS Major in China with a local team.
