The Regional Major Rankings (RMR) tournaments for PGL Major Stockholm 2024 are in full swing, with the second and final open qualifiers in North America and South America reaching the Round of 16. While most favourites have made it through the opening stages of the qualifiers, the star-studded O PLANO crashed out of the tournament with a shocking loss against a lesser team.

Top Counter-Strike teams from the two regions have already proven to the world why they entered the RMR events as favourites, many making their way through the first set to qualifiers. However, not all favoured teams managed to live up to the expectations.

In South American RMRs, the most notable team to crash out of the qualifiers was the newly formed O PLANO. Created last week and featuring some of the most successful Brazilian Counter-Strike players in the history of the game, O PLANO crashed and burned in a spectacular fashion.

O PLANO came together on January 5, when Vito "kNgV-" Giuseppe, Fernando "fer" Alvarenga, Epitácio "TACO" de Melo, Ricardo "boltz" Prass, and Lincoln "fnx" Lau linked up to fight for a spot at the first Counter-Strike 2 tournament. However, despite all the talent on the roster, O PLANO failed to make it far.

After beating Team Solid in the first round of PGL Major Copenhagen 2024: South American Open Qualifier #1, O PLANO slipped against Dusty Roots, who beat them 13-9, eliminating the Brazilian team from the qualifiers.

Their second attempt at reaching the goal of competing in Copenhagen proved even more disastrous. In the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024: South American Open Qualifier #2, O PLANO suffered a loss in the Round of 128, where they lost against Bombril, eliminating the Brazilian team from the qualifiers entirely.

North American RMR Ends Without Major Surprises

While O PLANO's exit from South American RMR was a big shock, the North American RMRs didn't feature any big surprises.

Team Liquid and the newly formed NRG Esports entered RMRs as favourites to make it through to the closed qualifiers, and both teams delivered, making it through the first qualifiers as first and second-placed squads, respectively.

Joining Liquid and NRG in the closed qualifiers are Complexity, M80, Nouns, Badass Gaming, BOSS, Party Astronauts, Carpe Diem, now my life be like, and vagrants, as well as four more teams from the second qualifiers, which will conclude on Thursday, January 11.
