Dutch national female Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team defeated Argentina in the grand final of IESF Female World Esports Championship 2023 to win the world championship title and $40,000 grand prize. By winning the tournament, the Netherlands female team became the second-ever female world champions.
IESF Female World Esports Championship 2023 was the second iteration of the female Counter-Strike: Global Offensive world championship. The tournament kicked off on Monday, August 28, in Lasi, Romania, and featured 10 female national teams.
The list of participants included the host nation, Team Romania, IESF Female World Esports Championship 2022 champions, Poland, Argentina, Brazil, USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Egypt, and South Africa. Besides Romania and Poland, who received direct invites, the remaining national teams qualified for IESF Women World Championship 2023 through their respective regional qualifiers.
Team Netherlands kicked off their journey to the world championship title in Group B, where they got paired with the United States, Brazil, South Africa, and Hong Kong and finished the tournament's first stage with a perfect 4-0 record.
Over the four games, Team Netherlands has not dropped a single map, sweeping Hong Kong (16-4, 16-9), South Africa (16-8, 16-9), Team USA (16-12, 16-12) and Brazil (16-5, 16-5), quickly proving themselves as serious candidates to go all the way. Team Netherlands carried over the momentum into the playoffs, where they crushed Australia (16-7, 16-11) in the upper bracket semifinals and booked a spot in the big final with a reverse sweep of Argentina (17-19, 16-6, 16-14).
In the IESF Women World Championship 2023 grand finals, Team Netherlands played a rematch with Team Argentina, who defeated the United States in the lower bracket final. However, like the first meeting between the two nations, this one didn't have a happy ending for the Argentinian squad.
Despite starting the series strong, with a 16-13 win on Mirage, Team Argentina couldn't contain the Dutch female CS:GO squad, who again produced a reverse sweep with 16-6 on Overpass and 16-14 on Inferno.
The Dutch world championship-winning roster consisted of two NIP Impact players in Naomi "Nayomy" Janssen and Kiaras "Qiyarah" Janssen, Halat "Missy" Naby, Melania "Gina" Mylioti, and Luna "ManeschijnX" Akkermans, who was the highest-rated player for Team Netherlands, averaging a 1.19 rating over the eight maps.
By winning IESF Women World Championship 2023, Team Netherlands became the second-ever women's world champions, after Team Poland (NAVI Javelins), who won the inaugural tournament in 2022.
