On Sunday, November 19, VERTEX Esports Club announced the signing of Matthew “Valiance” Hartrick. The 23-year-old Counter-Strike pro has previously played for VERTEX Esports Club 2022 and now re-joins the team as a replacement for Liam "malta" Schembri.

Valiance’s signing does not come off a surprise since VERTEX have already played several tournaments with the 23-year-old rifler, including CCT Oceania Series #3, earlier this month. At the time, VERTEX acquired Valiance as a temporary replacement for malta, who retired from competition in late October.

This marks Valiance’s third stint with VERTEX, who he played for in the past, albeit only briefly. The Australian CS pro was a part of VERTEX midway through 2022 when he played just 11 maps for the team before he left VERTEX in August and has appeared in just one more tournament (Clash of Rivals: Melbourne Spring 2022) for the rest of the year.

In January 2023, Valiance re-joined VERTEX as a stand-in for ESL Pro League Season 17: Oceanic Conference - Open Qualifier and has since featured in several smaller competitions and qualifiers with various stacks but hasn’t signed a professional contract until Sunday.

Since his return to VERTEX, Valiance has already left a mark and helped the team claim the silver medal from CCT Oceania Series #3, where VERTEX lost against Rooster. At the tournament, Valiance has played 12 maps and averaged a positive 1.08 performance rating.

VERTEX are currently competing at ESL ANZ Champs Season 17, where they’ve made the lower bracket semifinal. Valiance will make his official debut for the team on Monday, November 20, when VERTEX clash with Vantage Esports for a spot in the lower bracket final.
