Counter-Strike betting sites have Virtus.pro priced as 1.72 favourites to defeat Astralis, who enter the match as 2.00 underdogs. While Virtus.pro have looked better before the tournament, Astralis had a much tougher road to this point, which begs the question of whether the wrong team is favoured.

  • Astralis defeated FaZe Clan 2-0 in the previous round
  • Virtus.pro only had to defeat Wildcard Gaming and FlyQuest
  • Virtus.pro defeated Astralis in December

Head to Head

Virtus.pro and Astralis last met in December, during BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2023, when Virtus.pro won. That was before Astralis rebuilt their roster.

  • Virtus.pro 2-1 Astralis – December 6, 2023

Virtus.pro Form

Besides winning BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2024 in January, Virtus.pro have not accomplished much in bigger Counter-Strike events. They exited Intel Extreme Masters Katowice in 17th-20th-place and finished the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 in ninth-11th.

Still, they are set to reach at least the playoffs of IEM Chengdu 2024, which both has to do with the fact that there is not as fierce competition in the tournament and that Virtus.pro had a very easy schedule to the upper bracket finals of Group B.

In the first round, Virtus.pro defeated Wildcard Gaming 13-1 and, in the semifinals, edged past FlyQuest (2-1). The game against FlyQuest was much closer than expected, as Virtus.pro needed overtime to win the first map. Results like that don’t look great, and they definitely don’t help with believing that VPs have what it takes to make it all the way.

Astralis Form

Astralis weren’t expected to accomplish much at IEM Chengdu 2024 since they did not look great in any of the previous tournaments. However, the Danes managed to surpass the expectations and are now locked in to appear in the playoffs.

Following an easy victory against Steel Helmed in the opening round, Astralis humiliated the current no.1 team in the world, Faze Clan, with 13-7 on Ancient and 13-4 on Nuke. Some may consider that victory a fluke, which, considering the fact that Astralis typically don’t do well against top-rated teams, might be true.

But Astralis played well and more than deserved that victory. Now, the question is whether they can keep playing at this level and take down another big team en route to the IEM Chengdu 2024 playoffs.

Virtus.pro have accomplished more than Astralis this season and looked better before IEM Chengdu 2024. But looking at the teams now, it wouldn’t be too crazy to say that Astralis are in a better spot.

Virtus.pro produced some good games at the Major and played close series against G2 Esports and Eternal Fire. However, in China, they barely made it past FlyQuest, which is concerning, to say the least.

Astralis, on the other hand, haven’t managed any great games before IEM Chengdu but have seemingly found traction in their victory against FaZe Clan. That victory alone is enough to show more respect to Astralis, who arguably shouldn’t be priced as underdogs against Virtus.pro.
