- The European esports organisation partnered with Chinese organisation, Invictus Gaming
- The joint venture is named G2.IG

G2.iG
On Friday, December 9, 2023, a prominent European esports organisation G2 Esports announced it has partnered with Invictus Gaming to form a Dota 2 team. The joint venture is named G2.iG and will make its debut at ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 Major, set to kick off on December 11.
Invictus Gaming is one of the biggest and most successful Chinese esports organisations, fielding several teams across esports titles. That includes Counter-Strike, PUBG, and Dota 2.
IG has been involved in the Dota 2 scene since August 2011 and has, over the years, made a name for itself as one of the strongest teams in the region. At points, Invictus Gaming were also the strongest Dota 2 team in the world, namely in 2012 when Invictus Gaming won The International.
Over the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season, Invictus Gaming haven’t won much, which led to a complete roster overhaul and saw IG sign some of the top talents from the region. And with the recently announced merger with G2 Esports, Invictus Gaming now have access to even more resources, which will help the squad rise back up to the top of the Chinese Dota 2 fodochain.
The partnership between G2 Esports and Invictus Gaming sees G2 enter the Dota 2 scene for the first time as G2 expands its presence in the esports world to nine titles.
The partnership, forming the G2.iG Dota 2 roster, is the second major move from G2 Esports, who recently signed a strategic partnership with Version1 to acquire the North American Call of Duty team.
“China has continuously been a priority market for us, and we’re happy to finally field a local team for our millions of Chinese fans to support. In addition to a new market, we’re also expanding into Dota 2 for the first time, which is a huge moment for us.”
"Both China and Dota have been at the forefront of our minds for a long time but until now, we haven’t found the right fit that would work in the long term. We know partnering with iG — who have a Worlds trophy and an Aegis — will enable us to build the best team and we can bring the G2 way to yet another region and a new esport. This really is the best time to be a G2 fan.”
According to the announcement, the partnership between G2 Esports and Invictus Gaming is supported by M88 Mansion, an Asian betting platform, which will become the official betting partner of G2.IG and G2 Esports Counter-Strike team.
G2.iG will debut at ESL Kuala Lumpur 2023 Dota 2 Major, which is set to kick off on Monday, December 11. At the tournament, G2.iG will join Gaimin Gladiators, LGD Gaming, Azure Ray, Team Liquid, Team Secret, BetBoom Team, 9Pandas, Team Falcons, Blacklist International, Team Undying, and Wawitas Sagazes, in the race for the lion’s share of the $1,000,000 prize pool.
