On Saturday, January 6, Team Secret announced a pair of roster changes ahead of the 2024 season. As announced, the team benched Yeik "MidOne" Nai Zheng and Daniyal "yamich" Lazebnyy in favour of Teng "Kordan" Tjin Yao and Marcel "Ekki" Hołowienko.

Team Secret had a rough run through the 2023 Dota 2 season, failing to win a big event. Secret started the year with a gold medal from DPC WEU 2023 Tour 2: Division II; however, that remained their only notable accomplishment, with several early exits from international tournaments.

In June, Team Secret crashed out of DreamLeague Season 20 in 11th-12th place, a month later excited Riydah Masters 2023 in ninth-12th, and they ended the year with a seventh-eighth-place finish at ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023.

Their most disappointing result came in August when Team Secret ended the International 2023 - Western Europe Qualifier in fourth place and missed the season-culminating event, just one year after claiming a silver medal from The International 2022.

Given the team's lack of success, some changes were on the cards, yet not many expected Team Secret to part ways with MidOne.

Kordan and Ekki Join

Kordan and Ekki were announced as the latest addition to the Team Secret roster on Satruday, January 6. The duo will replace MidOne and yamich, who were let go from the lineup after ten and two months, respectively.

The departure of MidOne came as a bit of a shock since the Malaysian Dota 2 player had only recently joined the team. MidOne was announced as Team Secret's newest member at the start of November 2023 alongside Miroslav "BOOM" Bičan but has now found himself without a team just weeks before the 2024 season.

MidOne's replacement, Kordan, joins Team Secret as a bit of an enigma. The Singaporean player started his esports career in December 2022 when he joined Bleed Esports, where he remained until this Saturday.

With Bleed Esports, Kordan won DPC SEA 2023 Tour 3: Division I and made a few appearances in international events, posting solid individual performances. However, despite his undeniable talent, Kordan arrives at Team Secret as a relatively inexperienced player.

His compatriot, Ekki, joins Team Secret with more experience in the esports scene, having made his debut in 2022 with The Cut. However, over the two years, Ekki has served mainly as a coach for The Cut, Team Secret, and most recently, as an assistant coach for TSM.

Despite returning to Team Secret, where he had previously served as an assistant coach, Ekki was now handed the support role, replacing yamich, who moved to the bench.

With the two unproven signings, the expectations for Team Secret remain low ahead of the 2024 season. However, if this new project succeeds, it wouldn't be the first time Clement "Puppey" Ivanov's squad would exceed expectations.
