On Monday, December 4, JD Gaming announced that jungler Seo "Kanavi" Jin-hyeok and ADC Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk extended their contracts with JD Gaming. By locking in a jungler and ADC, JD Gaming now need just two more players to complete its 2024 League of Legends roster.

In a Twitter post, JD Gaming confirmed that Kanavi and Ruler will stay with the Chinese LoL esports team for one more season. While a big move, seeing the duo re-sign is hardly surprising considering the team's success in 2023 and the fact that the organisation's CEO confirmed that the team would keep its key players for one more season.

In November, JD Gaming's CEO said the team would bring back Ruler, Kanavi, and support Lou "MISSING" Yun-Feng. And considering the offseason moves that followed, JD Gaming seems to have stuck with their word.

At the end of November, JD Gaming waved goodbye to top laner Bai "369" Jia-Hao and released mid laner Zhuo "knight" Ding a couple of days later. This left the roster with just three active members, who were all expected to stay with the team.

But it wasn't until Monday that it was officially confirmed that Ruler and Kanavi would continue competing under JD Gaming's banner. MISSING, on the other side, has a contract with the team until November 2024.

And while JD Gaming is set to replace 2/5 of its roster, it makes a lot of sense for the squad to keep its star players.

One Of The Best Teams Of 2023

JD Gaming were one of the best-performing teams of 2023 and candidates to complete the Golden Road. The Chinese powerhouse kicked off the year by winning the LPL 2023 Spring regular season and playoffs and added the Mid-Season Invitational 2023 title in May.

In the second split of the season, JD Gaming placed second in the LPL 2023 Summer regular season but won the playoffs, securing their third trophy. This set up the team to complete the Golden Road, only missing one more trophy to reach the never-before accomplished achievement.

However, even though JD Gaming entered the LoL World Championship as the main favourites on esports betting sites, the Chinese powerhouse crashed out of the tournament in the semifinals.

Despite losing LoL Worlds 2023, JD Gaming stood tall as one of the most dominant teams of 2023, and by keeping its roster intact, we can expect JDG to be just as dangerous heading into the 2024 season.

It's currently unclear who'll fill in the vacant spots, but according to some rumours, JD Gaming and BIlibili Gaming are set to exchange mid laners. If the reports are correct, JD Gaming will acquire  Zeng "Yagao" Qi, but we still don't know who'll join the team as a new top laner.
