League of Legends World Championship 2023 Predictions
League of Legends World Championship 2023 is set to begin on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, with the first round of the Play-In stage, where eight teams will battle for two tickets leading into the main event. The tournament will return to South Korea for the first time since 2018 and promises to be the biggest and the best LoL Worlds to date.

Featuring 22 League of Legends teams from all regions of the world, LoL Worlds 2023 is the pinnacle of the LoL esports scene and undeniably one of the biggest and most-watched esports tournaments in the world. But beyond its prestige, LoL Worlds is also a tournament which offers plenty of excellent betting opportunities for punters to explore.
So even though there is a clear line between the main favourites and the rest, LoL Worlds historically produces upsets, most notably in 2022, when DRX defied all the odds and won the organisation’s first Summoner’s Cup. But will Korea manage to rise up again and solidify its spot as the most successful region, or will Korean teams crumble against one of many Chinese powerhouses?
League of Legends World Championship 2023 Odds
Esports bookmakers have made it very clear they should do well at the LoL World Championship 2023 with their outright betting offer. According to the betting odds, JD Gaming (2.25) are by far the biggest favourites to win the tournament and walk the Golden Road as the first team in the history of LoL esports.
But while JDG have definitely looked like the best team this season, it’s tough to ignore the likes of Gen.G (6.00), LNG Esports (7.00), T1 (8.00), Bilibili Gaming (10.00), Weibo Gaming (13.00), KT Rolster (13.00), and Dplus KIA (15.00) who are next in line to derail JDG and claim the Summoner’s Cup for themselves.
Moving down the outright betting odds, we have a handful of teams who can be considered dark horses under the right circumstances; however, considering how big of a quality gap there is between the top teams and the rest, believing any of the heavy outsiders can win is way too optimistic. There’s one exception.
So, considering there is only a handful of teams that can win, it’s fair to ask – which squad will go all the way?
The Main Favourites
JD Gaming are the clear favourite to win LoL World 2023. They already won both LPL splits and the Mid-Season Invitational 2023, and they only really struggled against LNG Esports in the LPL 2023 Spring Playoffs. This is possibly the most stacked team and in the best form in the world, but as much as I can praise JDG and their chances to win the tournament, they’re not a good pick from a betting perspective.
At 2.25, JD Gaming are expected to win LoL Worlds just under 45% of the time, which, from this perspective, is an absurd number. They’re good, but if LoL Worlds 2023 was played 100 times, I wouldn’t expect JDG to win it 44 times.
Gen.G are the second favourite to win LoL Worlds 2023 at 6.00, which sounds about right. They’re the best Korean team with good results this season and will have a home-ground advantage, which counts for something. But Gen.G didn’t look excellent at MSI 2023, and while this is still a good team, I would like to see better odds on Gen.G to pull the trigger.
LNG Esports are another interesting choice at 7.00, but I would argue that they’re priced at this number just because LNG were one of the few teams to cause problems for JD Gaming. They are still an excellent team, but they can be a bit one-dimensional, which doesn't do them any favours at LoL Worlds.
There’s also the fact that LNG didn’t look great until the very end of the season, and with meta shifting again, LNG might struggle to look as good as they did in the summer.
Underdogs That Can Do Well
There are two underdog teams I would keep an eye on. Even though I have very little faith in any Western team to do well at LoL Worlds 2023, G2 Esports (26.00) are worth a small bet since they’re a team that are unique and adaptable enough to do well regardless of how the meta shifts.
G2 Esports have solid players, but their biggest strength is a strong coaching staff, which could be the difference maker. This is still more of a “what if” scenario since a lot will have to go right for G2 Esports to go all the way, but out of all outsiders, they are an inviting pick at the offered betting odds.
Bilibili Gaming are another underdog I wouldn’t sleep on. Even though they didn't dominate domestically – mainly because BLG were unable to stop JD Gaming – Bilibili Gaming did well at the MSI 2023 (second), and they have been playing well throughout the whole season.
If you believe that the LPL is the best region in the world, then BLG are the second-best team in the world.
We don’t know how well BLG will do against Korean teams, but they should definitely beat Western teams and LNG esports, so there is no reason to have them priced at 10.00.
Verdict
I like Bilibili Gaming at 10.00 as the only outright bet on LoL World Championship. G2 Esports are worth a smaller bet because at 26.00, they’re a bit underrated, assuming the meta will suit them and that they’ll get a bit lucky. Obviously, a lot will have to go right for G2 to win the whole tournament, but it can happen, and I would give that scenario a higher than 3.8% chance of happening.
Bilibili Gaming have about a 10% chance to win the event, which might sound right, but it’s a very low number considering what they’ve shown this season. This is the second-best team in the LPL, so at the very least, they should be priced above LNG Esports, so at 10.00, we’re getting some value.
