James "Mac" MacCormack
MAD Lions' League of Legends head coach James "Mac" MacCormack has announced that he will not be travelling with his team to South Korea for the LoL World Championship 2023. Instead, he will help his team remotely while assistant coach Patrick "Pad" Suckow-Breum takes over as the acting head coach for the duration of the event.
League of Legends World Championship 2023 is one of the biggest esports events of the year and a tournament every LoL player and coach wants to be a part of. However, this won't be the case for MAD Lions' head coach Mac, who announced that he will stay at home and won't be attending the event live this season.
As explained by Mac, he and his wife are expecting a child next month, with her due date around Monday, November 6. As a result, Mac decided to stay home with his family rather than attend LoL Worlds 2023 and risk missing the birth of his daughter.
"If you've been paying attention to some of our players' social media, you may have noticed that I'm not in Korea and in fact in my lovely home in the UK, because I won't be attending Worlds this year. Owing to the fact that my wife and I are expecting a beautiful baby daughter to arrive around 6th of November."
"The team and I decided that I wouldn't be going this year, which is obviously a hard decision, not one that we took lightly."
MAD Lions will start their LoL Worlds 2023 campaign in the Swiss Stage as Europe's third seed, where they'll face off against some of the world's best League of Legends teams for a spot in the knockout stage. This year marks MAD Lions' fourth consecutive LoL Worlds appearance, all of which they've achieved with Mac as the head coach.
Over the four LoL Worlds appearances, MAD Lion's best placement came in 2021, when the European squad reached the quarterfinals but lost against the eventual finalists, DAMWON KIA.
