  • Song "Rookie" Eui-jin signed for Ninjas in Pyjamas on Thursday, December 14
  • The 26-year-old returns to his former team after spending one year at Top Esports
  • Besides Rookie, NiP also announced the signing of a new jungler and top laner
Song "Rookie" Eui-jin
On Wednesday, December 14, Ninjas in Pyjamas revealed three new League of Legends signings, including top laner Deng "shanji" Zi-Jian, jungler Mao "Aki" An, and mid laner Song "Rookie" Eui-jin. With the addition of Rookie, the 26-year-old mid laner re-joins the team who he competed with in 2021-2022.

Rookie returned to his old organisation on Wednesday after spending the last season as mid laner for Top Esports. During his first stint with Ninjas in Pyjamas (then Victory Five), Rookie helped the team win the LPL 2023 Spring regular season and claim two bronze medals from the LPL 2023 Spring Playoffs and Summer regular season.

Following a highly successful run through the first half of the season, Victory Five crumbled in the LPL 2023 Summer Playoffs (fifth-sixth) and crashed out of the LPL 2022 Regional Finals in fourth place, thus missing out on qualifying for the LoL World Championship.

For the 2023 season, Victory Five rebranded to Ninjas in Pyjamas and made a couple of roster changes. That included releasing Rookie, who left to play with Top Esports, where he hasn't accomplished much.

He ended the LPL 2023 Spring split with a seventh-eighth-place finish in the playoffs and again missed out on qualifying for the LoL World Championship with a first-round exit from the Regional Finals. Still, despite his lack of success over the last two years, the 2019 world champion should feel hopeful about what the 2024 LPL season will bring.

Ninjas in Pyjamas Form A New Lineup

Singing Rookie is arguably the biggest signing Ninjas in Pyjamas have made this offseason, but it's only a small portion of the roster overhaul project. Besides signing Rookie as a new mid laner, NiP also acquired two former Oh My God players in top laner shanji and jungler Aki.

The duo will link up with Rookie and bottom lane duo  Ying "Photic" Qi-Shen and Wang "Zhuo" Xu-Zhuo as the only carryovers from the 2023 season. Besides keeping their bottom lane intact, Ninjas in Pyjamas also added former coach Yoon "Zero" Kyung-sup as a substitute support.

Zero, who has across his esports career played as a top laner, support, and had a short stint as a jungler, will return to pro play after six years. He stepped away from the game in 2018 when Zero took over as a coach for Team WE. He later spent one and a half years as a head coach for Victory Five and Ninjas in Pyjamas.

With the recent signings, Ninjas in Pyjamas finalised their LPL 2024 roster, which will look to improve upon NiP's results in 2023, when the team finished the two splits in 13th and 10th place.

League of Legends Pro League (LPL) 2024 season kicks off in January 2024.
