On Friday, November 3, Team BDS announced Yanis "Striker" Kella as the new head coach of the organisation's League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) team. Striker has been promoted to the position of head coach after serving as Team BDS' assistant coach since December 2022.
Following a disappointing early exit from League of Legends World Championship 2023, Team BDS initiated a roster rebuild process ahead of the 2024 season. However, while there have been reports of some player changes, Team BDS has officially announced just one change to its LEC roster.
As confirmed, Team BDS's assistant coach Striker was promoted to the role of head coach, which means that Striker will replace Adrien "GotoOne" Picard for the 2024 season. GotoOne has been with Team BDS since December 2021, when he joined Team BDS Academy as a head coach.
He helped the French academy squad collect a silver medal from the LFL 2022 Spring Playoffs and LFL 2022 Summer Playoffs, ending the season with another runner-up finish at the European Masters Summer 2022.
Since GotoOne took over as a head coach of Team BDS' LEC roster, he has helped the team win the LEC 2023 Spring Season and made the finals of the LEC 2023 Spring Playoffs.
Unfortunately, despite the strong performance in the spring split, Team BDS couldn't emulate their success in the final split of the year and recently suffered an early exit from LoL Worlds 2023, where Team BDS made the main event only to go 0-3 and exit the tournament in 15th-16th place.
Despite that, GotoOne has accomplished a lot in one split with the team, but it seems like Team BDS felt like changes were needed.
Striker joined Team BDS in December 2022 alongside GotoOne and has played a key role in the team's success over the last season. And while he has less experience as a coach compared to GotoOne, Striker has previously coached the most successful European regional leagues team, Karmine Corp, with whom he has won two EMEA Masters titles, LFL 2021 Spring Playoffs, and added two LFL silver medals in LFL 2021 Summer and LFL 2021 Finals.
Besides replacing the head coach, Team BDS are reportedly also looking to part ways with ADC Juš "Crownie" Marušič. This has yet to be officially confirmed, but an announcement should be made sometime in the coming days.
