Top Esports vs G2 Esports Predictions

Top Esports and G2 Esports will clash on Saturday, July 6, 2024, in the second round of the Esports World Cup 2024. It'll mark their second meeting of the season after G2 Esports defeated Top Esports at the Mid-Season Invitational 2024. But G2 Esports are priced as underdogs for the rematch.

League of Legends betting sites have G2 Esports priced as 3.20 underdogs for the upcoming series and Top Esports as 1.30 favourites. Since both squads are elite-tier, such a massive price gap is arguably a bit overexaggerated.

  • G2 Esports defeated Top Esports at the Mid-Season Invitational 2024
  • Top Esports eliminated the tournament favourites, Gen.G
  • This could tun out to be a very close series

Head to Head

G2 Esports already met with Top Esports once this season, at MSI 2024, when the European squad won.

  • G2 Esports 3-0 Top Esports – May 14, 2024

Top Esports Form

Top Esports kicked off Esports World Cup 2024 with a massive victory against Gen.G, who the Chinese LoL esports squad beat in two maps. Sweeping the defending MSI 2024 champions and the favourites to win the Esports World Cup 2024 is no small feat, but it's not like it was very surprising.

The first game between TES and Gen.G was very close and could've ended either way, but Top Esports navigated the late game better and secured the victory. The second map was much more one-sided, with Top Esports rolling over Gen.G, in some part due to their better team composition.

Overall Top Esports looked great against Gen.G in the previous round and much better than any other team in the tournament – as most have looked sloppy.

Top Esports Squad & Team News

Top Esports have not announced any roster changes.

  • Bai "369" Jia-Hao – top lane
  • Gao "Tian" Tian-Liang – jungle
  • Lin "Creme" Jian – mid lane
  • Yu "JackeyLove" Wen-Bo – ADC
  • Tian "Meiko" Ye – support

G2 Esports Form

G2 Esports struggled a bit against FlyQuest in the first round and had to clutch out game three to walk away with a win. Results like that don't inspire much confidence, considering FlyQuest are objectively the weakest LoL esports team that attended the tournament, yet it's not like G2 Esports performed poorly. It has more to do with the fact that we expected a more dominant performance from the European champions.

After seeing G2 Esports drop one map against FlyQuest, it's fair to question whether they're ready to face Top Esports. Unlike FlyQuest, Top Esports are an elite team and they performed admirably well against arguably the strongest squad in the world.

By some logic, G2 Esports should struggle even more against Top Esports than they did against FlyQuest. Yet that doesn't change the fact that both G2 and TES are extremely strong.

G2 Esports Squad & Team News

No roster changes for G2 Esports.

  • Sergen "BrokenBlade" Çelik – top lane
  • Martin "Yike" Sundelin – jungle
  • Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther – mid lane
  • Steven "Hans Sama" Liv – ADC
  • Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle – support

Verdict

LoL bookmakers have Top Esports priced as huge favourites, yet the difference in quality between the two teams isn't that significant. Their round-one series would suggest otherwise, but we have to look at the bigger picture.

G2 Esports defeated Top Esports in May when G2 were a decisively better team, and while it's not fair to expect another stomping from G2 Esports, this match should be much closer than what the betting odds suggest.

At outsider odds, G2 Esports are an excellent bet – as, at the end of the day, the quality difference between the two teams isn't nearly that big.
