What is Apex Legends Global Series?
The Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) is a global competitive tournament series for Apex Legends – an online video game owned by Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment.
Similar to other esports titles, the ALGS competitions are held separately across different regions, where the teams compete for domestic titles and the right to represent their region at international events.
The tournament series was founded in 2019 and held its inaugural season in 2020 with 22 events over four phases – each phase culminating in a Major event, including the season-ending ALGS Championship.
Each season consists of three phases – Split One, Split Two, and ALGS Championship. Each split consists of a regular season (Pro League) and playoffs, feeding into Major events held between the splits.
The ALGS Pro League seasons are held across four regions – EMEA, APAC South, APAC North, and the Americas.
Each region features 40 teams that fight for the Pro League title. The regular seasons also serve as qualifiers for upcoming LAN events, where teams collect ALGS points that are then used to determine invites to the ALGS Championship.

Apex Legends Global Series Format
ALGS announced significant changes for the 2025/26 season (ALGS Year 5), including a new LAN format, new maps, a new Legends ban system, regional consolidation, and updates to the point system.
With the changes to the ALGS Year 5, there are five tiers of tournaments - Challenger Circuits, Qualifiers, Pro Leagues, Open and Playoff, and Championship.
The Four Major Regions include:
- Americas
- EMEA
- APAC North
- APAC South
New LAN Format
- ALGS Year 5 will hold three LAN events, including a new ALGS Open tournament, held soon after the start of Split 1
- ALGS Open will feature 160 teams and will be one of the largest battle royale tournaments in history
- Previous ALGS Split 1 playoffs get renamed to Midseason Playoffs
- No playoffs in Split 2
Legends Ban System
- After each match, a legend which was picked the most by the teams will be removed from the pool for the remainder of the series.
- If an entire class of legends (Assault, Skirmisher, Support, Controller, or Skirmisher) gets removed during the series, the legend which has been banned for the longest returns to the available pool
- The new Legends ban system will be used across the ALGS Pro League, qualifiers, Last Chance qualifiers, and three LAN events.
New Map Pool
- For ALGS Year 5, Broken Moon was added to the map pool
- Tournaments will use four maps – Broken Boom, E-District, Storm Point, and World’s Edge
New Points System
- The Playoff Points from Year 4 will be renamed to Championship Points
- These points will be awarded to players rather than teams
- Championship points get added to LAN tournaments and Pro Leagues
- Increase in Championship Points in the regional final
Region Consolidation
- For ALGS Year 5, the South America region and the North America region were merged into the Americas region.
- Two special LAN slots for Chinese teams have been removed – China is removed as an eligible country again.
