What is the League of Legends First Stand?

League of Legends First Stand is an international LoL esports tournament held between the first and second splits of the season. It was introduced in 2025 as the third international event besides the Mid-Season Invitational and LoL World Championship and the first international tournament to use the Fearless Draft.

First Stand is the smallest of the three events, featuring just five teams – champions of each of the five Tier-1 leagues.

As announced by organisers Riot Games, FST is also planned to be held in 2026 and 2027, with the 2026 iteration hosted in Brazil, while the 2027 FST will head over to Southeast Asia (including Taiwan).

While the FST does not hold as much prestige as MSI or LoL Worlds, it proved to be a huge hit among LoL esports fans, giving supporters an early look at how the teams match up on the international stage.

Before First Stand, MSI (held in June) was the first international event and the only time LoL esports teams faced off in cross-region competition besides at the season-ending LoL World Championship.

The five teams are seeded into a single round-robin format group, where all matches use Fearless Draft and are played as best-of-three (BO3). The top four teams advance to the playoffs.
In case of a tie, a tiebreaker is in place and is decided based on:

    • Head-to-head record

    • Average game victory time
    • Coin Flip

Playoffs feature four teams, seeded into a single-elimination bracket with all matches played as best-of-five (BO5), including the grand final.
