BLAST Premier History
BLAST Premier was launched in 2020 as a professional Counter-Strike 2 league, primarily based in North America and Europe. BLAST Premier is a successor to the BLAST Pro Series, which disbanded in 2019.
Since its inaugural season in 2020, the BLAST Premier has become one of the most prestigious esports series in the world, hosting CS2 tournaments across the globe, offering millions of dollars up for grabs.
Throughout its history, most of BLAST Premier events have been hosted at BLAST Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark; however, some of BLAST events have also been held in other cities, including Lisbon, Abu Dhabi, and London.
Since 2020, BLAST Premier has regularly adjusted its format. The most recent change occurred in 2025, when BLAST ceased the partnership system to align with Valve’s new rules.
BLAST Premier Format
The BLAST Premier format has changed a lot since the inaugural season, more recently with the start of 2025, when BLAST cancelled the previous partnership system due to Valve’s new rules.
To align with the new rules, BLAST Premier introduced three formats – BLAST Bounty, BLAST Open, and BLAST Rivals.
- BLAST Bounty – a 32-team invitational tournament where teams collect bounties for winning games against their opponents; the stronger the opponent, the higher the bounty.
- BLAST Open – a 16-team Counter-Strike 2 tournament which mimics Intel Extreme Masters
- BLAST Rivals – tournament featuring the top-four teams on the Valve’s rankings in addition to the next-best teams in the Americas, Asia, and Europe
Due to the introduction of the new format, the season-culminating BLAST World Finals ceased to exist in 2024.

The prize pool for BLAST Premier events varies depending on the type of tournament and the money allocated by the tournament organisers.
Since the inaugural season, BLAST has handed out over $18 million in prize money over all of its competitions.
