    What Is Valorant?

Valorant is an online First-Person Shooter (FPS) game released by Riot Games in June 2020. The game was created to rival Counter-Strike as the world's most popular FPS game and one of the biggest esports. And while Valorant has yet to reach the same status as Valve's creation, it has had an explosive entry into the esports industry.

    Valorant

Thanks to Riot Games and its dedication to making Valorant one of the biggest esports titles, Valorant quickly caught on and due to its unique spin on FPS games, it didn't need long to catch the attention of gamers. Nowadays, Valorant is one of the most played free-to-play FPS games and has fans all over the globe.

Whatever Valorant will ever achieve its goal and surpass Counter-Strike as the biggest FPS esports title remains to be seen, but it doesn't have to. Valorant is in a perfect spot as a game and a highly popular esports title as it is.

    How Does Valorant Work?

Valorant is a 5v5 FPS game, which plays very similarly to Counter-Strike. Each game is played on one of many maps between two teams who take on the role of attackers or defenders.

A Valorant map is played until the first team wins 13 rounds, while the game can be either best-of-one (Bo1), best-of-three (Bo3), or best-of-five (Bo5). An overtime is added if the teams are tied at 12-12.

    Valorant-Gameplay

The attacking team's goal is to place a bomb (spike) on one of the bomb sides and let the timer run out or eliminate every defending team member.

Conversely, the defending team wins the round by eliminating all opponents, preventing the plant before the round time runs out, or defusing the spike before it explodes.

Valorant's gameplay is very similar to other games in the FPS genre, but it has a unique twist. Instead of players controlling generic soldiers, Valorant has "agents", each with special abilities which can be used during the game to gain them and their team an advantage.

The abilities include smokes, healing, revivals, turrets, slows, blinds, and many more.

In some ways, Valorant is a mix of Counter-Strike and Overwatch. Still, while the goal of the game is the same as in Counter-Strike, Valorant is distinctly different, mainly due to the addition of agents and their unique abilities.

    How To Bet On Valorant

Like most other popular esports, Valorant is very simple to understand, and it doesn't take long to learn how to bet on it. Those who have bet on Counter-Strike before will easily transition to Valorant betting, yet even punters who have never bet on esports before will quickly grasp the basics.

    Moneyline

Moneyline is the most straightforward bet bettors can place on a Valorant match, and it works the same way as in other esports or traditional sports. With a moneyline, we're simply predicting which of the two teams will win the match, and it doesn't matter how long it takes them or by how much the team wins.

    Handicaps

Handicap bets add a bit more variety to placing a Valorant bet. The bookmakers offer handicaps to level the playing field between two teams that are not equally matched by giving the favourites an imaginary disadvantage or the underdogs an imaginary advantage.

In Valorant, there are two main ways we can handicap the games – rounds won, or maps won. Every match will have a round handicap; however, only the best-of series will have a map handicap.

    Totals

Totals in Valorant are bets on whether a certain statistic in the game will exceed the predetermined value. Most commonly, the over/under bets in Valorant will be offered on rounds and maps played.

Some bookmakers might offer kill totals, but those are rare. Most esports betting sites instead stick with only rounds and maps totals.

    Proposition Bets

Proposition bets in Valorant are all wagers we can place on an occurrence or non-occurrence of an event that doesn't directly impact the game's outcome. Even though Valorant props aren't available in all matches, some of the most common propositions are wagers on which team will win a pistol round and whether the match will go to overtime.

    Outrights

Outrights (or future bets) Valorant bets are wagers on future events, most commonly, bets on which teams will win the next Valorant esports tournament. Larger tournaments will also offer other markets than just outright winners, including: "to reach final", head-to-head betting, stage of elimination, and tournament MVP.

    Key Valorant Tournaments & Leagues

In 2023, Valorant restructured its competitive scene format by introducing regional leagues, which are a part of the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) and at the top of the Valorant esports ecosystem.

    Valorant-Masters

There are three main Valorant leagues – VCT Americas, VCT Pacific, and VCT EMEA – for North & South America, the Pacific region, and Europe & Middle East. All three regional leagues serve as domestic tournaments and qualifiers for international events, including VCT Masters tournaments and the season-culminating VALORANT Championship.

In 2023, Valorant also hosted VCT LOCK//IN São Paulo as the season-opening tournament, which featured all 32 VCT teams who battled for the lion's share of the prize pool and an extra slot at VCT Masters for their region. It remains to be seen whether LOCK//IN will return in the next seasons.
