The tournament begins on Wednesday, January 28, with the play-in stage. The competition will progress through the group stages before culminating in the live arena playoffs, with the grand final scheduled for Sunday, February 8.

IEM Kraków 2026 Format

The road to the trophy in Poland consists of three phases, beginning with the play-in stage on January 28.

The play-ins will welcome 16 squads, who will battle through a double-elimination bracket for eight tickets leading into the group stage. The top eight squads from the play-ins will join eight directly invited teams in the group stage.

There they'll be seeded into one of two GSL-format groups, where all matches are played as best-of-three. Only the top three teams in each group advance to the single-elimination playoffs.

Playoffs are played in best-of-three series up to the grand finals, culminating in a best-of-five spectacle.

Sitting atop the power rankings are Team Vitality, who enter Poland as the team to beat.

Despite a slower start to 2026 than expected, failing to secure the BLAST Bounty title, Vitality remain the most stable and successful core in the world.

Having retained the roster that dominated 2025, when they won both Majors, Vitality's synergy and the individual peak of ZywOo make them a serious threat to go all the way in Krakow.

Team Spirit are the primary rivals for the crown. The biggest storyline is the return of magixx to the active lineup, joining phenom donk.

Despite the roster changes that removed some of the continuity, Spirit now have the perfect balance of experience and raw mechanical talent to reclaim their championship-winning form.

If donk continues to post world-leading numbers, Spirit's ceiling is higher than anyone else in Kraków.

FURIA follow closely behind. The Brazilians thrive in the high-energy atmosphere of Polish LANs, and their aggressive style often disrupts the tactical rhythm of European teams. While they were disappointing at the end of 2025, their early 2026 form looks revitalised.

Team Falcons field one of the most star-studded rosters in history, though inconsistency is their biggest weakness. However, the Falcons' veteran experience makes them a threat in any playoff bracket and can never truly be counted out.
