ESL Challenger
The ESL Challenger Katowice 2024 team list was finalised on Monday, September 30. According to the invited squads, it will be one of the more stacked ESL Challenger Counter-Strike esports tournaments to date, with five top-15 ranked teams joining the race for the title.
ESL Challenger Katowice 2024 is an upcoming Counter-Strike tournament which will take place at the ESL Studio in Katowice, Poland. The event will feature eight teams and a $100,000 prize pool, half of which will be handed to the champions.
Of the eight attending sides, Eternal Fire, MIBR, and Team Falcons all received direct invites. Monte secured their spot by winning the Polish qualifiers, while SAW and B8 made it through the European Qualifier. Legacy and paiN Gaming round up the list of attending teams having earned their tickets in the North American and South American Qualifiers.
While not an S-Tier tournament, ESL Challenger Katowice 2024 will feature one of the most stacked lineups of any ESL Challenger event.
Eternal Fire are as of now, the highest-ranked team, sitting at no.6 on the global Counter-Strike rankings. SAW are close behind at no.10, ahead of paiN Gaming, who have recently clawed their way to no.12.
MIBR and Team Falcons both travel to Poland as strong candidates to make it far currently ranked no.14 and no.15 on the global ladder, respectively.
Five Strong Candidates to Win
Eternal Fire are firm favourites to win ESL Challenger Katowice 2024, following their exceptional run at the ESL Pro League Season 20. The Turkish squad reached the grand final in Malta, forcing the eventual champions, Natus Vincere, to five maps in a thrilling series that came down to the smallest of margins.
While less accomplished, MIBR also left their mark in Malta, where they reached the semifinals where the Brazilians lost to Eternal Fire in two maps.
SAW did not attend ESL Pro League Season 20, yet the Portuguese team made some noise in late July and early August with two top-four finishes at CCT Season 2 European Series #6 and Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2024.
While ESL Challenger Katowice 2024 will welcome a few exciting teams, Team Falcons will be under the spotlight due to the recent signing of Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostiliev, who recently joined the squad on a three-month loan.
ESL Challenger Katowice 2024 will mark the Ukrainian’s first LAN event under the Team Falcons’ banner and his first full event on Counter-Strike 2.
ESL Challenger Katowice 2024 kicks off on October 25, 2024, when the eight participating teams will vie for the lion’s share of the $100,000 prize pool. The champions will take home a $50,000 winner’s share and a direct invite to ESL Pro League Season 21.
