On Saturday, December 16, Cloud9 announced the departure of Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov, who left the team after a 20-month tenure with the organisation. The 22-year-old's departure doesn't come as a shock since he has been sidelined since late October.

Sh1ro has not been playing with Cloud9 since October 26, when he stepped down from the active Counter-Strike lineup and was shortly after replaced by Kiril "Boombl4" Mikhaylov. Since then, there was no information available about sh1ro's future, however, it was expected that he would eventually leave the organisation.

It is currently unknown where sh1ro will end up; however, recent reports have tied the 22-year-old with Team Spirit. The latter team has reportedly already struck a deal with sh1ro as a replacement for Arten "ArtFr0st" Kharitonov.

One Of The Most Promising CS Talents

Sh1ro started his esports career in February 2018 with team 7, but it wasn't until he joined Gambit Youngsters in April 2019 that sh1ro made a name for himself. With Gambit Youngsters, sh1ro dominated the online era of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and was quickly promoted to the main lineup, which got picked up by Cloud9 in 2022.

Shortly after joining the American esports organisation, sh1ro won Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2022 and added a couple more strong tournament placements. In early 2023, Cloud9 placed second at ESL Pro League Season 17 and won BLAST Premier: Spring European Showdown 2023.

Unfortunately, success has been hard to come by for the Russian squad since then, as Cloud9 have managed just one strong placement in an S-Tier event since their semifinal run at IEM Rio 2023 in April.

In the announcement video, sh1ro thanked Cloud9 for the memories, apologised to his teammates for the sudden departure, and wished them the best in the future.

"I apologise for leaving so soon. You (Denis "electroNic" Sharipov) believed in this lineup and I hope you will come up with [the] correct decisions to develop this team, this tag, and find success."

While it remains to be seen where sh1ro will end up, he is said to have already struck a deal with Team Spirit. Sh1ro's reported move to Team Spirit has yet to be announced, but it's expected to be unveiled soon.
