On Sunday, December 17, Team Spirit officially announced the signing of Dmitriy "sh1ro" Sokolov. The 22-year-old AWPer has recently left Cloud9 and was already rumoured to have struck a deal with Team Spirit, making the announcement more of a formality than anything else.

Although rumoured, sh1ro's signing comes as a surprise, considering Team Spirit's recent success at the BetBoom Dacha. The same Counter-Strike lineup also secured the PARI Dunav Party title earlier this year and seemed to be on the rise after adjusting to Counter-Strike 2.

However, despite Team Spirit's evident improvement, the Russian team decided to freshen up its roster with the addition of sh1ro, who took over the vacant spot left behind by the benching of Artem "ArtFr0st" Kharitonov.

ArtFr0st was a product of Team Spirit's academy team and has spent the last five months playing for the main roster. During that time, the 22-year-old has averaged an impressive 1.17 performance rating and played a key role in Spirit's recent rise.

He was the eighth-highest-rated player at BetBoom Dacha 2023 earlier this month and the fifth-highest-rated player at PARI Dunav Party 2023, where Spirit claimed their second tournament title of the year.

However, despite his performances, ArtFr0st has found himself benched in favour of sh1ro.
Still, despite ArtFr0st's performances, sh1ro is widely regarded as an upgrade.

The Russian is considered one of the best snipers in the world, having twice been named in the HLTV's top-20 players list. He was considered the fourth-best player in the world in 2021 and third-best in 2023.

Abrupt Departure From Cloud9

Sh1ro's signing with Team Spirit follows his abrupt departure from Cloud9's starting roster in October following the team's shaky performances at the Intel Extreme Masters Sydney 2023.

However, while sh1ro wasn't solely to blame for Cloud9's lack of accomplishments, he was eventually replaced by Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhaylov, who has since helped Cloud9 place top-six at BLAST Premier: World Final 2023 and BetBoom Dacha.
