KOI’s form ahead of ESL Pro League Season 20 wasn’t great, which is an understatement. While they found some success at Intel Extreme Masters Rio 2024: European Open Qualifier #2, their run through Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: European Qualifier A was cut short with losses against SINNERS Esports, UNiTY, and TSM.

Things have not looked any better during their trip to Malta, where they are 0-2 with losses agianst The MongolZ and G2 Esports. It is not the easiest schedule to have, but it’s not like that’s a good excuse for KOI’s lacklustre results.

KOI took ten rounds off G2 Esports on Mirage, which looked promising. But they completely collapsed against The MongolZ and lost with 1-13, 0-13. With a result like that heading into this match, it is more than fair to doubt KOI and their chances of success.

Wildcard, like KOI, are not expected to make it very far in this tournament. However, they were in excellent form heading into ESL Pro League Season 20, so at the very least, it is fair to say they should do well against other lower-tier CS esports squads like KOI.

At ESL Pro League Season 20, Wildcard have already lost to Team Spirit (0-2) and 9z Team (0-2). This does not look promising, but they took 11 and 13 rounds off Spirit and 16 combined (10,6) rounds against 9z Team. Not the best display, but not below the expectations.

Quality-wise, KOI and Wildcard are fairly even. Still, Wildcard are in much better shape and unlike KOI, they did not completely collapse in their previous outing.

KOI’s crushing loss against MongolZ alone is a good indication that this team is done and unlikely to show much on Friday. Quality is a concern, but so is morale, making KOI not a very inviting pick even at this number.
