Team Spirit entered ESL Pro League Season 20 as one of the more serious title candidates, yet their run so far has been mediocre, to say the least. Spirit kicked off the tournament with a 2-0 sweep of Wildcard but then lost to MIBR (1-2) and dropped down to Group B mid bracket.

There, Spirit found more momentum and defeated both MongolZ and 3DMAX, yet they needed a reverse sweep in both series, which is hardly inspiring. On the other hand, Team Spirit have produced some dominant map victories, which proves what we already know – while inconsistent, Team Spirit are still one of the elite Counter-Strike esports teams and more than capable of producing a deep run in Malta.

FURIA Esports Form

FURIA Esports have not had the most promising run through the group stage. They bested Falcons (2-1) in the first round, then lost a very one-sided series against Team Vitality (0-2), bested RED Canids (2-1), lost to Virtus.pro (1-2) and added two 2-0 sweeps against ATOX and RED Canids in the lower bracket to qualify for the playoffs.

A very up-and-down showing, with solid performances against weaker teams and much weaker showings against stronger squads. Over the six series played, FURIA have, however, shown some good things, namely against Falcons and Virtus.pro, but it is very evident that their map pool is not good enough to pose a serious threat for the title.

Team Spirit v FURIA Esports

Team Spirit have underdelivered in their fixtures leading to the ESL Pro League Season 20 playoffs, but there are many reasons to believe they should do better in the knockout stage. Spirit have accomplished a lot more than FURIA this season, had an easy time facing the Brazilian lineup at the end of August, and they have a much better map pool.

While Spirit tend to be somewhat inconsistent, they usually step it up when it matters, which explains why they're priced as such massive favourites for this series. Yet even at 1.68 to sweep, Team Spirit are an easy choice over the shaky FURIA.
