Virtus.pro vs The MongolZ Predictions
Virtus.pro will clash with The MongolZ on Monday, October 7, in the first round of Group B at Intel Extreme Masters Rio 2024. It'll mark their first meeting since May when VP won, but according to the latest betting odds, the Mongolian squad are expected to get their revenge.

The best crypto bookmakers have The MongolZ priced as 1.80 favourites to defeat Virtus.pro, who are 1.98 underdogs for the upcoming best-of-one series. This does not come as a massive shock, mainly due to MongolZ's strong showings in the months leading to IEM Rio 2024.
- The MongolZ are 3-2 from their last five
- Virtus.pro have won just as many games over the same stretch
- Virtus.pro (#10) are better ranked than The MongolZ (#13)
Head to Head
The MongolZ and Virtus.pro last met in May, when Virtus.pro won, but that was before the Russian squad made some roster changes.
- Virtus.pro 2-1 The MongolZ – May 8, 2024
Virtus.pro Form
Virtus.pro have not found much success of late. Since they placed top four at the Esports World Cup 2024 in July, Virtus.pro have consistently struggled to contest top placements in bigger events and recently finished ESL Pro League Season 20 in 13th-16th place.
Things are not as bad as they seem, as Virtus.pro have won three of the last five series, granted those victories came against Falcons, FURIA Esports, and RED Canids, while the two losses happened in the series against Team Liquid and HEROIC.
While VP have shown some signs of life, they are evidently not up there with the top Counter-Strike esports teams, which begs the question of how far they can go in Rio.
Virtus.pro Squad & Team News
In September, Virtus.pro parted ways with Nikolay "mir" Bityukov and Andrey "XomA" Mironenko, and replaced the latter with Pavel "PASHANOJ" Legostaev.

The MongolZ Form
The MongolZ came out of nowhere earlier this season and started making serious noise in some of the biggest European Counter-Strike esports tournaments. They won YaLLa Compass 2024 and reached top-12 at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2024, adding another top-12 place finish at the ESL Pro League Season 20.
Those results are seriously impressive for their standards, as are the results MongolZ produced in August, with wins against Eternal Fire and Team Spirit in Cologne. Since then, the Mongolian squad have done well with wins against KOI, 9z Team, 3DMAX, and BIG, although they could not emulate their success from August and lost the two rematches against Spirit and Eternal Fire.
The MongolZ Squad & Team News
No roster changes for The MongolZ.
- Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren
- Sodbayar "Techno4K" Munkhbold
- Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch
- Ayush "mzinho" Batbold
- Azbayar "Senzu" Munkhbold
Verdict
Results and form-wise, The MongolZ and Virtus.pro look fairly equal. Both teams made their presence known in bigger events, yet neither have managed to pick up any significant wins against stronger CS teams.
But it is easy to see why MongolZ are expected to win, as they have a much deeper map pool, consisting of four maps on which they have a higher win rate than Virtus.pro. On the other side, VP only seem to do well on Mirage and Anubis.
As there is no qualitative difference in the two rosters, we have to favour MongolZ, mainly due to the map pool. With Vertigo, Nuke, and Inferno likely banned, MongolZ should have the upper hand.
